Who doesn't enjoy a plate of chicken fried rice and egg rolls? If you don't, bye.
Just kidding–but seriously. I'm sure most of us can agree that Chinese food isn't something we consume all the time. It's more of a cheat meal kind of deal, but it's more than worth every single bite. Chinese food is so comforting and you can get a great meal for an even better deal. Since Ottawa is so lucky to be the home of Chinatown, we're also #blessed to have authentic Chinese food whenever we feel like it.
Now, you're probably craving oriental food right now because of this article. First, you're welcome. Second, this article will help you choose between the wide variety of amazing restaurants we have here in Ottawa. However, all 14 of these restaurants are a must try.
1. Golden Palace // 2195 Carling Avenue
Three words: try the egg rolls. You're welcome. And of course, everything else on the menu but you'll never find egg rolls like the ones at Golden Palace.
2. Yangtze Dining Lounge // 700 Somerset Street West
Yangtze Dining Lounge is known for their dim sum–for obvious reasons. They do have plenty of other options as well, but the dim sum is to die for. However, it is usually always busy so get there early if need be.
3. Royal Treasure // 774 Somerset Street West
A little hole in the wall place in Chinatown, however, you wouldn't be able to tell by the quality of the food. The serving sizes are large as well, so you get what you pay for. It's a great place to go with a big group of friends!
4. Mandarin Restaurant // Multiple Locations
This Chinese buffet is so popular in Ottawa. The decor is not only amazing, but the food will make you want to go back for fifths. I would recommend something to get, but you may as well just try everything.
5. So Good Restaurant // 717 Somerset Street West
So Good Restaurant is perfect for those who are vegetarian but are still looking for quality Chinese food. They specialize in vegetarian food and have endless options of what you can get. Or, if you're pescatarian, they have many seafood choices that you'll love.
6. Wong's Palace // 2961 Carling Avenue
This restaurant opened up in 1978 and it's still as popular today. It's your classic Chinese food restaurant–a place where you can't go wrong. If you're looking for takeout as well, this is the place to do so. If you're ordering for a group, I recommend the combos. You'll definitely please everyone.
7. Yang Sheng Restaurant // 662 Somerset Street West
Yang Sheng is another great place to get dim sum, and their soup is also amazing. Their soup isn't the traditional kind, but it tastes unreal. If you're feeling adventurous, I'd recommend the mustard greens with pork or duck and salted egg soup. Sounds scary but delicious, right?
8. Brother Wu Restaurant // 1060 St Laurent Boulevard
Brother Wu is a restaurant that also provides takeout. I recommend going during the lunch hours because they have a variety of specials. Their menu is cheap, but it's quality Chinese food. You won't be disappointed by this family owned restaurant.
9. Fortune Express Restaurant // 484 Hazeldean Road
Fortune Express Restaurant is an authentic Chinese food restaurant which also does takeout. If you do order takeout, you can get items for free if you spend the correct amount of money. Where do I order?
10. Rice Pea // 2280 Carling Avenue
This traditional Chinese food restaurant is super affordable and has so many choices. They're open from Tuesday–Sunday, and if you feel a cold coming on, I recommend going to them for their soup. It's amazing.
11. Dumpling Bowl // 730 Somerset Street West
If you're craving dumplings, you now know where to go. Dumpling Bowl has so many different options of dumplings, you'll want all of them. They also note which ones are vegetarian, so you won't have to worry. I recommend the curry beef and onion dumplings–yum!
12. Palais Imperial // 313 Dalhousie Street
Another place that offers amazing and delicious dim sum–you can never have enough, right? This place offers both Thai and Chinese food, which is a great mix. You can satisfy any craving here!
13. OpenRice Asian Fusion & Lounge // 1755 St Laurent Boulevard
OpenRice Asian Fusion & Lounge has it all–no, really. Their menu has a wide variety of everything you'd want and more. I'd recommend the coconut rice, because it comes in an actual coconut. There's nothing better.
14. Oriental House // 266 Elgin Street
Oriental House is the perfect place if you and friends are looking to dine out. Their portions are huge, and they are very reasonably priced. My two favourites are the lemongrass chicken and shrimp, as well as the beef with ginger and onion. Are you hungry yet?
