Beaches are one of the best ways to enjoy the summer weather. You get to soak up the rays of sunshine, but at the same time you get to cool off in the water if you get too hot. Summer is a time head to the beach, play a game, read a book, and enjoy some snacks. Beaches are perfect for a hangout day with your friends or a family get together or a cute date with your bae. 

It can be pretty tricky to find a beach close to Ottawa that is stunning. Ottawa isn't really home to many beaches at all really. The never ending search for new beaches to chill at each summer is a true struggle. Luckily there are quite a few beaches a couple of hours out of Ottawa that are sure to give you ultimate summer vibes. 


Britannia Beach

With picnic tables and BBQ pits Britannia Beach is definitely an Ottawan favourite. There are many volleyball nets that you can rent if you wish to play a game of volleyball on the sand. Britannia Beach is also super close to a hidden ice cream shop that serves up Lucky Charms ice cream, yes please.

Leamy Lake

With calm waters and great views, Leamy Lake is a great place to spend your time this summer. This small scenic lake in Gatineau is very close to the Hilton Hotel as well as the Casino Du Lac Leamy. The beach has two volleyball courts, a playground, picnic areas, and a concessions area.

The beach has a 75 metre long sandy beach with plenty of space to play frisbee or a game of catch. There are many spaces on the beach where you can picnic with your friends while enjoying the warm weather. Rent a cottage and escape for a quick trip!

If you're searching for a picnic spot you have found it. This beach is located only 20 minutes outside of Ottawa. It's a nice place to walk around, picnic, and play catch. In early July this beach transforms into a fun party for a sandcastle festival that's insane!

If you're looking for somewhere that's super easy to get to, then Mooney's Bay is great for you. There are so many gems close to Mooney's Bay. From a unique beach bar to a colourful ice cream beach shack, there's a lot to see while at Mooney's Bay.

La Pêche Lake is Gatineau Park's largest lake and it is stunning. The lake is about an hours drive from Ottawa. While at the lake you can rent a canoe or simply chill by the beachside. Be sure to bring your sunscreen and beach umbrella because this beach can get pretty hot.

Westboro Beach

Though maybe not the most secluded beach in the city, Westboro beach is super convenient to get to. It is located on the Sir John A MacDonald bike path making it the perfect spot to bike to this summer. While at the beach you can also eat some snacks from their cafe and enjoy the live music that is often play at the Westboro Beach Cafe.

Morrison's Quarry

Morrison's Quarry is one of the prettiest beaches you'll visit this summer. The water is so turquoise and the views of cliffs are incredible. You and your friends are bound to have an amazing time while at this stunning beach. The beach is only a 30 minute drive outside of Ottawa and it's totally worth it.

There are three main beaches at Lac Philippe; Breton Beach, Parent Beach, and Smith Beach. They are all set to open up on June 15th. Smith Beach is available to campers only, but with summer in the air camping is a perfect way to enjoy the weather.

The Pond is open from June to September between 7 am and 2 pm. It's a secluded swimming spot that you can chill at if you're in search of a new summer hideout. The Pond is a great spot to go if you want an early morning swim. The area is a conservation area so be sure to leave your pets and bikes at home.

The lake is 85 km long with about one hundred islands surrounding it.
