One of Ottawa's favorite food truck Gongfu Bao just opened their first brick and mortar shop at Bank and Gilmour. Currently, open four days a week as part of their soft opening, Gongfu Bao's officially opens at the end of August.

Owner, Tarek Hassan started his food truck in 2013 by using a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the purchase of his food cart. After the success of his food cart, he turned to crowdfunding on Indiegogo to raise $20,365 for the restaurant at 365 Bank Street. Backers of the Indiegogo campaign were able to earn exclusive perks such as clothing, a class on how to make bao or even free bao for life!

Gongfu Bao specializes in bao, a Chinese steamed bun filled with meat or vegetables. At the new Bank Street restaurant, you will be able to order a variety of handcrafted steamed bao, including maple BBQ pork, fried chicken, and grilled cheese. The menu offers vegetarian and vegan options, along with several non-bao options like dumplings, wonton noodles, rice dish, and wonton chips and dip. To drink Gongfu Bao offers house-made refreshing ginger-lime or Sichuan-cherry sodas or Hong Kong milk tea.

The new Bank Street location is the perfect spot for a quick, affordable meal, with many of the items being around $10. There also will be a take-out window so you can grab fresh bao to-go. For more information, you can check out Gongfu Bao's website.
