Meditating is the one period of time during your day that you're alone with just you and your thoughts, and you feel so refreshed after. However, some people just don't know how to meditate, and it definitely takes practice.

What is meditating good for exactly? Well, it helps tremendously with stress and anxiety, and whether you have either of those does not matter. Even the least stressed out person can use meditation affectively. It helps you unwind from the day, or start your day off with a clear head. You simply focus on your breathing and that's it, and you feel brand new afterwards.

1. Ottawa Meditation // Private Location

Throughout the year in Ottawa, the Sri Chinmoy Centre of Ottawa offers free meditation classes/workshops to help guide you along your path to relaxation and self love. They believe these classes should be free, because you are only uncovering what you already have. After your first few sessions, you'll be able to advance into others–which are also free. Their meditation classes include: spiritual breathing, the power of concentration, visualization techniques, and much more.


2. Simply Meditation // Multiple Locations

Simply Meditation has two different types of meditation classes that everyone can benefit from. They have an introductory class, which is free and happens once a month at the Ottawa Public Library Main Branch. They go through three different meditations using music, your breath and beads. Then, every Sunday, they have meditation class in the evening that will get you geared up for the week ahead! This is lead by donation, and is located at Planet Botanix. It's a mantra meditation, meaning there is music played and the vibe in itself will relax you like no other.


3. Meditation & Mindfulness // 357 Wilmont Avenue

Meditation & Mindfulness offers a complimentary one hour orientation session that will guide you into the relaxation that you need. After that, you can join the Meditation & Mindfulness course that will be sure to clear your mind and give you a stress-free environment. It's a 8-week course, and you'll feel brand new afterwards. This course will turn you into a meditation wizard.


4. Rama Lotus Yoga Centre // 342 Gladstone Avenue

Rama Lotus Yoga Centre offers two meditation classes a week, Wednesdays and Fridays, and they're perfect for to unwind in the middle or end of your week. By getting a membership, you can go to these classes as well as other yoga classes or you can just pay as you go! Yoga and meditation are amazing together, so if you're looking for more than just relaxing and want to get your body moving, this is the perfect place to do so.


5. The Ottawa Shambhala Meditation Centre // 119 Ross Avenue

The Ottawa Shambhala Meditation Centre doesn't just welcome beginners, but they welcome the most trained meditators as well. These meditation sessions are offered every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, and are free but accept donations as payment as well. If you end up falling in love with it, which you probably will, they have weekend retreats and other variety of classes you can take!
