16 Reasons Why You Should Be Looking Forward To Spring In Ottawa
See ya never, winter.
In the words of Samuel L. Jackson, "Enough is enough."
The first day of Spring, March 20th, is looming closer and, to be completely honest, thank. The. Lord. What is the point of winter after Christmas, honestly.
Watching the walls of snow in front of our houses melt is probably one of the satisfying feelings for any Ottawan. And, to be completely honest, the extra sunlight is really starting to affect my mood. In a good way, because I definitely wasn't in a good mood since January. Ottawa winters. You have to see it to believe it.
Spring is a season of rebirth, renewal and a big fat middle finger to the Ottawa winter. Without a doubt, it's one of -- if not -- the best season in this great city.
Here's 16 reasons why we're really looking forward to spring in Ottawa:
1. Parliament Hill Yoga.
Just being able to put my bare feet on the grass is something I dream about daily. Getting zen all in the meanwhile isn't all that bad either.
2. Kayaking on Dow's Lake.
Rowing with the squad in May all the way through summer. That's my plan.
3. The Arboretum
It's like Ottawa's own not-so-Central Park.
4. Hiking in Gatineau Park
Snow's gone and the trails are cleared. Grab those hiking boots and.
5. Being able to go to the beaches again in Gatineau Park.
There's beaches in Ottawa too, yeah, but you can actually swim in these come May.
6. That extra daylight, though.
Clocks go ahead on March 12 because they're too impatient to wait the next eight days.
7. The weather in general, honestly.
I'm not dying of hypothermia while watching Crashed Ice and my hair isn't frizzy and sweaty on a typical, extra humid Ottawa summer day.
8. And the food trucks are out again.
More places to eat = Happiness.
9. Sunshine means patio season.
El Furniture rooftop, anybody?
10. Eating ice cream is socially acceptable again.
No denying I was still eating it in the winter though.
The official opening date is on June 7th, just a few weeks before summer officially begins.
12. Zip-lining at Camp Fortune.
Admittedly, the end of ski season bums me out; but on the bright side, zip-lining gives us a nice compensation for our adrenaline fix.
13. Picnics in the park become a thing again.
So excited, honestly.
14. We can finally bike again.
There's those guys who bike in the winter, but we're not like that. Nuh-uh, no way.
15. Tulips, tulips, tulips.
These gifts from The Netherlands define the season in Ottawa. Oh, and they make pretty good Insta photos, too.
16. And, praise Jesus, no more dealing with this.
For a while, at least.
