Boys - they're hard to understand. Most of the time when you ask them where they wanna go on a date, they'll probably just shrug their shoulders and say, "I dunno."
But, now that winter's pretty much officially over, Netflix and chill can no longer be the only option. Enough with the, "I dunnos." Ladies, take charge of the dates this summer and brainstorm with these 21 things to do with your boyfriend this summer:
Watch a movie at the Port Elmsley Drive-In
Just an hour's drive from Ottawa, this drive-in theatre has been around since 1953 and is the absolute perfect retro date idea for the old-school couple.
Cool off on a hot summer's day at Calypso
Brave the infamous Aqualoop at Canada's largest themed waterpark or just chill on one of their fold out chairs in the Sun. Day passes go for $36.99.
Rent a kayak or canoe at Dow's Lake
Right beside Carleton University, you can pick up a two-person kayak rental for $20.00 for the first hour and $8.00 for any additional hours. There's plenty of places to rent kayaks and canoes around Ottawa-Gatineau, but this is your best best if you're looking for something close to the downtown core.
Climb the Princess Louise Falls in Orleans
Try out this undemanding hike on the city's east end and take some photo ops that will scream absolute couple goals.
Build your own custom box of donuts at Maverick's
All men like donuts: Fact. Delve into this local favourite on Bank Street which is basically the equivalent of Subway for donuts. The custom options are endless and no box will ever be the same.
Climb to the top of the world at King Mountain
Well, the top of Ottawa-Gatineau.
Watch the sunset and have some cocktails on the Andaz rooftop
Ask any local and the answer will always be the same: The best views of the city can be seen from the top of the new, trendy Andaz Hotel rooftop. You don't need to be a guest to take an elevator to the top and can enjoy some nice cold drinks while basking in the beautiful views of Notre Dame, the Ottawa River and Parliament.
Grab an ice cream at Sweet Jesus
Screw the haters - Sweet Jesus is fab. For some of the most creative and extra soft serve in Ottawa, come to their ByWard Market location in Ottawa and blow out a candle on their birthday cake ice cream. Oh, and no - it doesn't actually have to be your birthday to try one.
Spend a day at Morrison's Quarry
It's tough to find clean swimming water in Ottawa (I'm looking at you, Ottawa River), but you can enjoy a dip in this paradise in Wakefield. The aqua waters are incredibly clear and are perfect to cool off on a typical humid Ottawa day.
Take a scenic drive up the Champlain Parkway
Without a doubt, the drive up the Champlain Parkway is one of the nicest in the city, especially when Spring is in bloom. At the very end of the road you'll also be rewarded with specatcular views at the famous Champlain Lookout.
Rent an adorable rustic cabin on Lac Phillipe
These 4-season tents could be rented year-round but are especially great in the summer when you can go swim at the nearby Lac Phillipe.
Make your BF be your personal photographer on the Wakefield Covered Bridge
Eh, they're used to taking pictures of you anyway. One more place couldn't hurt.
Go zip-lining through the trees at Camp Fortune's Aerial Park
The ski hills may be closed, but Camp Fortune offers thrills for adventure-seekers year round at their zip-lining course in Gatineau. Better yet, if you want to save money with your bf, you could also hike up the ski hills in the summer to catch some amazing views of the Ottawa Valley from Quebec.
Spend a day exploring the Lusk Caves
Head down into this gem and dont forget your bathing suit - the water can get pretty high.
Have a picnic at Major's Hill Park
Eating inside was so last winter anyways. Hit up the most iconic park in the nation's capital surrounded by stellar views of the Chateau Laurier, Parliament and Notre Dame.
Grab a popsicle at Playa Del Popsical
I can't be the only one who thinks popsicles are underrated. Everyone seems to be going out for ice cream during the summer, but we're trendsetters. Head down Bank Street to grab a popsicle at this (sort of) underrated food truck.
Try to conquer all of these bucket list restaurants
Brunch it up at Wilf & Ada's or get all classy at Riviera on Sparks. There's a restaurant for every sort of couple out there.
Try an axe throwing class
This is where your relationship's level of trust will be truly tested.
Play some old school pinball and eat some pierogies at TARG
Boys like pinball and everybody likes pierogies, so I guess this is a sort of a win-win date.
Go horseback riding at Captiva Farms
Better than riding the OC Transpo for a date.
Take a couples pic at the new Ottawa sign in the Market
Excuse me, Amsterdam. Pardon me, Toronto. Okay, thank you. We got big letters in Ottawa now. Hence, we're now a big city and we're ready to take pics to prove it.
