9 Ottawa Restaurants For People Who Hate Vegetables
For the Ottawa carnivore.
Vegetarian articles are all over the place. There might be too many go-to guides for people looking for places to not eat meat. So, where does that leave us, the picky eaters?
We gathered a list of restaurants that offer some of the meatiest, greasiest dishes in Ottawa and we're not really sorry about it. We love ribs, fried chicken and wings, and we don't know what our lives would be without them.
Here are 9 Ottawa restaurants for people craving anything but veggies:
1. The SmoQue Shack // 129 York St.
You'd probably ask a waiter at The SmoQue Shack if they had any vegetarian options and they'd just be scratching their heads. This place offers one of the meatiest menus in Ottawa with everything you'd imagine to see at a Texas-style smokehouse. They got delicious, tangy pulled pork, saucy ribs, Jamaican jerk chicken. Can't decide on one? They got platters that mix and mash everything.
2. Fatboys Southern Smokehouse // 34 Murray St.
Not only does Fatboys have some of the, it also serves the heartiest all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch in the city. Eat all the meat to your heart's content. Oh, and on Thursdays, it's all-you-can-eat ribs from 4pm onwards. No excuses. You have to go here.
3. The King Eddy // 45 Clarence St.
This 24-hour diner in the ByWard Market serves a juicy, customizable burger and also specializes in its self-proclaimed "Northern" fried chicken. You can get their crispy, flavourful chicken in a bucket or on a large plate of chicken and waffles with some irresistible whiskey gravy.
4. D&S Southern Comfort BBQ // 6501 Russell Rd.
This one's a bit of a road trip, but the ride is always well worth it. Their hickory smoked St. Louis-style ribs are as meaty as they can be and their meat platters are more than generous. Do try the mac and cheese balls on the side.
5. HOOLEY's Pub // 292 Elgin St.
Featured as one of our favourite places for, Hooley's offers all of their many breaded wings for 45 cents each on Mondays. Try their maple bacon, Caribbean Jerk or just the plain crispy wings, or be bold and mix and match.
6. Big Bone BBQ & Wicked Wings // 701 Eagleson Rd.
Pig out with their Fantasy Burger: a seemingly ordinary burger with cheese and bacon, and then -- surprise -- there's pulled pork snuck in there. They also got a wide selection of affordable 1lb wings and, like most BBQ smoke houses, those oh so big platters.
7. Elgin Street Diner // 374 Elgin St.
Greasy fare is a diner essential and the Elgin Street Diner takes it to a whole other level. Their poutine, often cited as one of the best in Ottawa and made with fresh-cut fries, becomes a vegetarian's nightmare when it's stacked with smoked meat or Philly steak.
8. The Foolish Chicken // 79 Holland Ave.
Ain't nothing foolish about going to this place. The skin of their tender, juicy rotisserie chicken is marinated with a perfect combination of herbs and spices. If you want to give that a try and their famous Texas-style ribs with Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, you can try one of their very affordable chicken and ribs combos.
9. Central Bierhaus // Kanata Centrum Shopping Centre
Beer, sausages and schnitzel. The Germans were never too much of a salad people, anyway.
