Early this morning, Ottawa citizens were surprised when they got an unexpected visit from a bear in their downtown district.
The surprise visit from the black bear meant that the downtown area was completely shut down and closed off after they received multiple 911 calls about the big bear wandering through the streets.
We know the curiosity can be unbearable, but please avoid the area and allow the area to be clear and calm to bring the bear to safety. https://t.co/SxaQAIGv51— Ottawa Police (@OttawaPolice) September 6, 2018
He's now known as the #BywardBear and for good reason. The bear was wandering through Ottawa's ByWard Market area when police were forced to shut down the area.
Hours later, the bear has finally been captured and released back into the wild.
Here are some videos of the bear after it was tranquilized and captured.
Now, the famous bear has been released back into the wild and we're so happy. We're glad that the bear was not killed, he was safely captured and then freed into nature!
The #BywardBear was in excellent shape when he was released. He’s now in the Lanark area forest. The juvenile male of about 70 kg now wears a yellow earring to identify him in case he is recaptured. #ottnews #ottawa pic.twitter.com/VpfDBw3SW6— National Capital Commission (@NCC_CCN) September 6, 2018
