There is a long list of wonderful cafes in Ottawa that everyone thinks about when they want coffee. However, there are a lot of places that don't come to mind at first and it's truly a shame.
Even though all coffee shops are equal in Ottawa, there are some that get left behind because they're adorable little hole in the walls or because people like to stick to what they know. We're all creatures of habit, but it's time to break out of that.
So here are 9 totally underrated coffee shops you need to try out in Ottawa–I promise you'll fall in love.
1. Black Squirrel Books & Cafe // 1073 Bank Street
Black Squirrel Books & Cafe is the epitome of adorable. They sell used books that are in great condition, and their entire store looks like an old fashioned library with antique furniture. However, the best part is the coffee shop that is at the front of the store. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a quiet Sunday afternoon by yourself, or go shopping for old books with your friends.
2. Cyclelogik // 1111A Wellington Street
You probably are asking yourself why a cycle shop is in a coffee shop article. Well, there is good reasoning for that. Every once and a while, Little Victories Coffee Roasters opens a pop-up shop in stores to get their name out there. They were recently in NRML Select, and now they've moved into Cyclelogik. It's an amazing way to get their name out there, especially to their target demographic. And they're doing a great job at it!
3. Blumenstudio // 465 Parkdale Avenue
Blumenstudio is a floral shop in Westboro that is also a cafe. So, while searching around for flowers, you'll be amazed at the amazing coffee they serve and their adorable setup. With flowers and antiques all around, it seems like it's out of a movie. You can get an amazing flower arrangement made, or pick up one of the plants just around the store. But all in all, you definitely can't pass up the coffee there.
4. Café Qui Pense // 204 Main Street
Cafe Qui Pense is a great independently owned cafe that knows how to brew a great coffee. It's cozy and quiet, and you can definitely come here to get work done if you're looking for a place to lay low. They also have a great variety of baked goods and pastries, which will make anyone stick around, honestly.
5. Cafe Morala // 734 Bank Street
Cafe Morala is a coffee shop that's located in The Glebe, and it's a must-try. It seems like you would find this cafe in Montreal, as the decor seems a little bit French. They have everything from sandwiches to pastries to great coffee and drinks.
6. Bar Robo // 692 Somerset Street West
As you can tell from the name, Bar Robo isn't just a coffee shop. It's also a bar, but during the day it's a great coffee shop to hang out and get work done at. Located in Chinatown, the ambiance of this bar/coffee shop will make you want to stay from open to close. If I can tell you anything, it's to try out the Fruit Loop London Fog. You can thank me later.
7. Aroma Espresso Bar // 200 Marché Way
Aroma Espresso Bar has everything you could want and more, including adorable decor. It doesn't feel like this cafe is in Ottawa to be honest, and the menu also outdoes itself. You can get everything from pastries, to breakfast, to cold and delicious drinks, to soup. Depending on what you're craving, Aroma Espresso Bar definitely has whatever your heart desires.
8. Grounded Kitchen & Coffeehouse // 100 Gloucester Street
