There are plenty of festivals and affordable events to attend that are perfect if you are on a tight budget. Or if you are looking for free activities, head outdoors and enjoy all the splendid autumn colors as part of Fall Rhapsody.
Here are tons of ideas of things you can do in Ottawa for $10 or less this October.
Take a wall through Ottawa's many gardens to enjoy the vibrant fall leaves. Garden Fall Rhapsody takes place from October 6 to 8. This free festival encourages you to bring your camera and go for a hike around the Capital.

You don't need to be in Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest! From October 2nd to 7th Beyond The Pale Brewery will be celebrating Oktoberfest. Here you'll be able to enjoy a pint of their German style beer or some delicious spit roast pork from The SmoQue Shack.
Take the free shuttle to Gatineau Park from September 29 to October 21 to see the beautiful fall leaves. Gatineau Park is one of the best places near Ottawa to see the multicolor leaves, so bundle up and go for a hike.

Spend the night laughing watching a stand-up comedy at Swizzles Comedy Night. Every Monday night at 8:30 pm they showcase a variety of different comedians. Located in the basement of 246 Queen Street, entry to the show is PWYC ( pay what you can).
Decorate your house for Halloween by picking a pumpkin to carve! Around Ottawa, there are plenty of pumpkin patches such as Proulx Maple & Berry Farm, Log Cabin Orchard, Cannamore Orchard, and Abbey Hill Farms where you can buy a pumpkin.

If you love classic arcade games, you need to head to Room 104. Here you can enjoy tons of classic games that you can play against your friends. The affordable spot in the Byward Market has no cover charge and has 100+ shots on the menu that only cost $4 each.

Head to Live On Elgin for their 90s Horror Movie Trivia Night. Get your friends together to form a team for this fun event on October 4th at 8 pm. The trivia night is hosted by Toasted Theatre Company and will cover classic movies such as Scream, The Craft, The Blair Witch Project, and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Escape the cold and head into the warm greenhouse at Carleton University. From September 29 to October 7 they will be having their Butterfly Show that will feature 1300 butterflies. Make sure to have your camera ready, as you will want to share photos on Instagram of all the beautiful butterflies you will see.

If you love Mac and Cheese, you need to head to the Mac My Cheese Festival at City Hall. The 3 day festival, from October 12-14 will feature Ottawa's best Mac and Cheese and will have live music.

Cute dogs in costumes and delicious food will be featured at Ottawa Sausage Fest from September 30 to October 14 in the ByWard Market. At the festival, there will be a Wiener Dog Parade, and participating restaurants will feature unique sausage dishes to try.
Bring a warm blanket and head to Capital Pop-Up Cinema Halloween film screening on October 27th. The Halloween themed movie will be a surprise and starts at 7 pm.
If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your friends this fall, go apple picking! Until mid-October, many of the local orchards around Ottawa will have apples still on the tree that you can go pick. As you only pay for what you choose, this activity can be as affordable as you'd like.

Did you know you can take a free sketching class every month at the Ottawa Art Gallery? Sketchy Thursdays take place the last Thursday of every month, with the next event taking place on October 25th from 6 - 7:30 pm.
