It's crazy to believe that despite Toronto's large and diverse food scene, not one single restaurant has the high honour of being Michelin Star winning. As a matter of fact, it was reported earlier in the year that the Michelin Star team doesn't even send inspectors to Canada as a whole. Which is insulting when you think about how amazing and talented some of our local chiefs are.
For anyone who might not be as food obsessed as we are, and might not be aware of what a Michelin Star is - it's international rating system to grade restaurants on their quality. According to the Michelin Guide, one star signifies "a very good restaurant", two stars are "excellent cooking that is worth a detour", and three stars mean "exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey". The listing of starred restaurants is updated every year. However, Canada never makes the list.
Although 2018 might change everything for us, since Toronto is getting a brand new Japanese restaurant and the celebrity chef Akira Back opening the joint has restaurants all over the world some of which have been dubbed the best in the city and his resto DOSA (in Seoul Korea), earned one Michelin Star for its excellence in innovative cuisine and service. So while we don't necessarily have our own Michelin Star - we do have a star holder in our presence.
Chef Akira Back's Toronto restaurant is aptly named Akira Back Toronto and will be one of nine Akira Back locations around the world. Located in the Bisha Hotel you can expect the place to be just at luxurious as the 44-storey elegant boutique hotel it's housed in.

When it comes to what you can expect to see and taste on Akira Back Toronto's menu, be prepaid for Japanese cuisine with Korean flavors and even an added Canadian twist. As well as "cocktails are as bold as the chef’s signature dishes".
According to Chief Back, “there will be some of my signature dishes from Akira Back brand restaurants around the world featured at Bisha”. Which means diners can expect items like the Akira Back tacos, crispy pork belly and his famous jeju domi, which Las Vegas Weekly called “one of the best raw fish bites” in town (pictured below).
Some other items we know are making a feature on the menu is, a Duck Prosciutto Airbread, Iberico, Tuna Daikon Roll with Korean Caviar (pictured below).
Also Chief's famous Ahi Tuna & Mushroom Pizza, which was described by one taster as the dish they'd been waiting for and now craving more of.
