8 Vital Things To Know When Planning Your Next Las Vegas Trip

Tips and tricks from a self-proclaimed Las Vegas expert.

Viva Las Vegas! There really is no place on Earth quite like it. The sights, sounds, tastes, and excitement of this city should be experienced by everyone at least once in their life...or twice... or six times!

As someone who's been to Vegas more times than Céline Dion has performed there, trust me when I say that if you're looking for some fun, this is your destination. From the hot desert heat (and no humidity!), to incredible shows on The Strip, to some of the best clubs, restaurants, and bars you'll ever have the pleasure of dancing the night away in, Las Vegas never disappoints.

And contrary to popular belief, it's not just for bachelor and bachelorette parties, although it IS the perfect place for that. I celebrated my 21st birthday there on a girls' trip, went on a relaxing trip with my significant other, and even went with my mom and her friends - to see JLo, of course. There's something for EVERYONE in this magical place.

Chances are you're already mentally planning your epic trip to Las Vegas, so here are a few tips and tricks to get the most out of your visit to the world's capital of fun:

1. Decide if you want to go off The Strip before you get to Las Vegas.

While some of us like to live in the moment, others are meticulous planners. I'm definitely the latter and it proved to be handy when I went to Las Vegas and decided to visit the Grand Canyon. Your regular Vegas wardrobe of pretty dresses and cute tops are probably not what you want to wear when going on that adventure, so deciding ahead of time what you plan to do will save you the hassle of trying to find running shoes on your trip... (Although, Vegas DOES have great shopping!)

2. Use hashtags like #vegas or #lasvegas on Instagram photos to find out about deals for clubs and bars.

Social media is a key way to connect with locals who work in Vegas and they'll actually come to YOU! If you use Vegas-related hashtags (or even geo-locations), club promoters will often reach out to you with great offers regarding nightlife. In case you weren't sure if Vegas clubbing is as great as everyone says it is, it IS. Whether you can get a deal or not, be sure to check out top spots like VooDoo Rooftop Nightclub and Drai’s After Hours.

3. Make reservations for restaurants in advance.

Vegas is home to ENDLESS fine dining establishments. Forbes Five Star restaurants like Joël Robuchon at the MGM Grand to celebrity chef restaurants like NOBU in Caesars Palace, you will be dining like a king. One of my personal favourites is the Japanese restaurant Katsuya at SLS Las Vegas! It may seem like making a reservation is pretty common sense, but with such high-in-demand restos, you should book well in advance to avoid missing one you really had your eye on!

4. Check what events are happening during the time you plan to visit.

The fabulous Las Vegas plays host to special events throughout the year, some of which bring thousands of people from all over (on top of the usual amount of travelers visiting the city). Electric Daisy Carnival is one that should definitely be on every dance music lover's list. Other events include a blues and bacon festival (you read that right!), Life Is Beautiful Music Festival, Vegas Uncork'd by Bon Appétit, and expos of literally every variety. So if you want your trip to Vegas to be extra special, be sure to check what's happening before you get there.

5. Bring comfortable heels because you'll be doing a lot more walking than you think...

I was convinced the only time I'd be walking in heels was from my hotel to a cab and then from the cab into a club...and I was right. But what I didn't factor in was that hotels in Vegas are MASSIVE and all the clubs are located in said hotels. That's definitely one of the most fun parts about Vegas: you could be staying in a hotel that houses a beach club, night club, endless restaurants and bars, and a residency show by one of your favourite artists! But you're definitely going to be doing some walking, regardless of if you leave your hotel or not.

6. Be sure to ask for a room upgrade when you first check in to your hotel.

Providing you didn't get the ultra, mega, insane, presidential, penthouse suite at your hotel, there's always a better room out there waiting for you. And all you have to do is ask! Oftentimes hotels have nicer rooms available at the time of your stay so they can give you a free upgrade, or at least, a small fee per person. Whether this means a bigger room or a better view, it never hurts to ask! PS. If you're looking for the perfect girls' getaway, try The Venetian located in the midst of action on The Strip.

7. Know all your transportation options.

While you can definitely walk the entire Strip, sometimes you need a break and should get a ride instead (especially if you're wearing heels). There are plenty of options available to get from point A to point B in Las Vegas, like the monorail! It you're thinking of going big (when in Vegas right?), then why not consider getting a party bus? This is a fun option if you're with your friends and guarantees that you arrive in style at one of Las Vegas' epic nightclubs.

8. Check out your favourite artists and book tickets in advance!

The world-class shows in Las Vegas are sure to have you dancing, cheering, laughing, and maybe even shedding a tear. I mean...have you heard the Backstreet Boys sing?  Make sure to buy tickets well in advance, especially for shows that have just started or have shorter residencies. Other shows, such as those by Cirque du Soleil, have been around for quite some time (AND ARE AMAZING) and usually have tickets available.
