Two Saturdays ago, Toronto was the first stop on an amazing journey.

Fly For MS, a foundation that supports MS awareness and research touched down at Billy Bishop Airport Saturday afternoon kicking off their 2015-2016 mission.

Fly for MS is a unique foundation that brings MS awareness to new heights, literally. They take MS patients who may not be able to walk anymore and give them the opportunity to go up in a plane above their city and even pilot the plane!

Over 100,000 Canadians are currently living with multiple sclerosis. MS is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that can affect one’s mobility, muscle control and cause chronic pain. Currently there is no cure. Organizations such as Fly For MS’ goal is to change that by spreading awareness worldwide.

Fly for MS, this year, is travelling to over 18 different countries across Latin America, including Mexico, Brazil and Peru spreading their message of hope for people living all over the world with Multiple Sclerosis.

A group of talented media production students at Ryerson University have teamed up with this organization to further their fight against MS.

Their project is Viable, a 30-minute feature film about a girl named Violet, a pianist with big dreams to attend a prestigious music school. Her dreams are suddenly put on hold when she is diagnosed with MS, a disease that affects her dexterity and ability to play piano, days before her audition with a world-renowned music school. It is a film of hope, perseverance and pursuing your dreams.

The project was inspired by the film’s director, Mary Gyulay’s, real life experience with the disease. They hope that their film will be able to start a movement and show the world that MS can occurs in people of all ages. Viable has also started an online campaign, garnering support from the band Blue Rodeo, celebrities within the MS community and other MS Organizations.
