There are several reasons to love Canada. It's got beautiful landscapes, diverse cities, and tons of exciting people.
Even big-name celebrities seem fond of it, and it's not just because of our cheap dollar or because our land is a completely Trump-free zone. Rather, many celebrities are fascinated with the vibrant cottage scene in Canada; so much so that they visit often or even own properties in cottage country.
The New York Times even declared Muskoka as "The Malibu of the North" because so many celebrities have vacationed or bought cottages there in recent years.
Here are 12 famous celebrities who cottage in Canada:
Cindy Crawford is a Muskoka girl at heart and owns a family retreat by the lake. Though her property can only be accessed by boat, Crawford mentioned in a Hello Magazine interview that she and her family engage in several summer activities including paddle boarding, fishing, swimming and boating.
Donald Sutherland soaks up the rays in Georgeville, Quebec when he's not busy wrecking havoc in Panem as President Snow. He actually owns a summer house there, and is sometimes spotted with his son Kiefer Sutherland (of the hit show 24) walking through the town.
Doug Gilmour, the former captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, is said to own a gigantic waterfront mansion in Muskoka. He's not the only Leafs player to own a cottage in the area, however - almost all of the Leafs (and other Canadian hockey players) do too!
Goldie Hawn and her husband Kurt Russell spend so much time in Muskoka that they're practically residents there during the summer. Their cottage is located on the edge of Lake Rosseau and they are typically spotted shopping in the Gravenhurst area.
Halle Berry was an avid vacationer in the small Quebec town of Saint-Hippolyte; especially during the time when she was dating Gabriel Aubrey, a model from Montreal. Her cottage was put up for sale recently; however, Saint-Hippolyte remains to be a vacation spot of hers.

Martin Short is Canadian-born, so it's not surprising that he would choose to cottage in Canada. The SNL alumnus' location of choice for cottaging is Lake Rosseau in Muskoka. He's so in love with the area that he even collaborated with the Royal Canadian mint to create a special edition, $3 coin that depicts his cottage, sailboat and chairs by the dock!
Steven Spielberg is a fan of the Muskoka wilderness and often vacations in the region during the summertime. The big shot director is said to own a cottage property on Lake Rosseau along with other famous names.
