You've likely heard many a debate over whether or not girls and guys can be just friends. The truth is, it has its challenges, ups and downs, but what good relationship in your life doesn't come with some sort of work? The old saying that 'nothing worth having comes easy' can be applied here.
It's true, it can sometimes be a bit more difficult than same-sex friendships. Maybe he starts dating a new girl who seems intimidated by the friendship and/or won't let you guys hang out anymore. Regardless, having guys in your close circle of trusted confidants can be incredibly eye-opening and quite refreshing. Here are some of the most valuable life lessons you learn from the special dudes in your life.
1. It's really not that big of a deal
You're probably overreacting and getting yourself worked up about nothing. His advice is often the best because it is the least clouded with bullshit and straight to the point. Unless your dying, it's really not that big of a deal and you can and will get through it.
2. Do whatever you want, whenever you want
You can't care or worry about what everyone else might be thinking or might be doing. It's not that hard to just do what you want and chances are you'll be much happier just following your gut.
3. Eat whatever you want, whenever you want
Calories are so irrelevant. When you hang with your girls you feel like you're constantly talking to them about how bloated you feel or how gross it is that you ate an extra slice of pizza and still want ice cream. With your guys, they could give a shit less what you're ordering. Oh we just left Pizza Hut? What are we waiting for? let's hit DQ.
4. You can drink without crying
It's possible to go out in a large group without having to deal with any alcohol induced mental breakdowns, who knew? Guys can legitimately have fun in any setting if there's just a bit of beer and somewhere to crash afterwards. It really is a simple life.
5. Sometimes brutal honesty is a good thing
Sometimes you put on a hot little number for a night out and your girl friends dance around the fact that it might be a little too much. When you do the same with your guy friends, they won't be scared to tell you to change, they likely won't say it that nicely but you welcome their protectiveness.
6. Texting is stupid
Your guy friends are awful at texting you back unless its a dire conversation requiring immediate attention. They don't need to contact you for the details on who/what/when/where and how you'll be taking your lunch break today, it has absolutely nothing to do with them. Unless you have a point, don't waste your time.
7. You don't need to talk to someone every day to know they care
You can go days without talking to your best guy friend and you're never worried about whether or not he's mad at you. There might just be nothing worth saying right now but you know that it doesn't mean he doesn't care.
8. Your advice actually matters
Your opinion isn't falling on deaf ears with your male friends. Girls often ask for advice when they don't actually really care because they're going to do whatever they've already decided to do. With your guys, they wouldn't waste their time or energy asking you for advice if they didn't actually want it.
9. It's okay to be a little immature now and then
Fart jokes, burping and lighting stuff on fire can actually be a ton of fun. Girls nights are more about fine wine and serious life chats but with your guys you can just let loose and be a little immature.
10. Compliments can be authentic
Sometimes that brutal honesty we talked about can come in a more welcome way. For some reason, compliments from your guys friends just seem more genuine because again, they wouldn't waste their time or energy bullshitting you.
11. The truth about guys
"If he doesn't call you back, he doesn't care as much as he should." Your male friends will tell you the truth about what goes on in a guys head, what he really means when he speaks and whether or not he's worth talking about.
12. You're pretty great
In a group of girls it can be easy to feel self-conscious sometimes. Nothing against your lady friends, but things can get a bit heated and over-competitive. Your guy friends have a tendency to make you feel pretty great. You're smart, you're driven, you're a catch and you shouldn't settle. They remind you that you're pretty great.
