Rankings aren't everything... Unless you live in Canada. Canadians are always proud of their country's achievements, no matter how big or small they may be.

 Anything that puts "our home and native land" in the spotlight is always a good thing. That being said, 2016 was definitely a good year for Canada!

Here are 13 world rankings that prove Canada was an amazing country in 2016:


Canada was ranked the best travel destination for 2017.

The Lonely Planet gave Canada the #1 spot for its dynamic cities, reputation for inclusiveness, exciting fusion food and mysteriously underrated wines.


Canada was ranked the 2nd best country in the world.

The US News And World Report, the WPP agency and Wharton School of Business ranked Canada 2nd for quality of life, economic growth and entrepreneurship.


Canada was ranked the 2nd most reputable country in the world.

The Reputation Institute was given the #2 spot for its reputation for being "happy, peaceful and relatively free of corruption."


Canada was ranked the 2nd most progressive country in the world.

The Social Progress Imperative scored Canada at 89.49 points for human rights, which put it in the 2nd spot.


Canada was ranked the 2nd best country for surviving a zombie apocalypse.

The Zombie Research Society (it's totally a thing) ranked Canada in 2nd for zombie preparedness after taking into consideration prime factors like population density, climate, topography, gun-ownership rate, military capability, natural resources and public infrastructure.


Canada was ranked the 3rd most sleep-deprived country in the world.

Aviva's study put Canada in 3rd place for overall sleep deprivation. Perhaps Canadians are just that hardworking!


Canada was ranked 3rd in the world for coffee consumption.

Canada's passport was ranked as the 6th best to have in the world.

Henley & Partners gave the Canadian passport a 6th overall ranking for it's access to 172 countries.


Canada was ranked one of the most hipster countries in the world.

National Geographic placed Canada 7th based on its "culture capitals, hipster hotspots, wild escapes, and places generally keeping it cool in 2017."


Canada was ranked one of the most free countries in the world.

The Fraser Institute tied with the UK and Australia at 6th place based on a Human Freedom Index consisting of 79 parameters, including rule of law, freedom of international trade,  and national security and safety.


Canada was ranked one of the best countries in the world for dating.

US News used survey responses from participants between 18 and 35 and gave Canada a 6th place ranking based on parameters like friendliness, fun, sexiness, trustworthiness, and approachability.


Canada was ranked among the top 10 countries for quality of life.

The United Nations Indexwhich evaluates 188 countries for quality of life, has Canada sitting in its 9th place spot.


Canada was ranked among the top 10 least corrupt countries in the world.

Transparency International gave Canada 83 points on its Corruption Perceptions Index, putting it at the 9th spot overall.
