With cuffing season around the corner, Toronto is unlike any other dating pool.
There are so many different people in the city, and it's easy to feel like just a number, but keep these tips in mind the next time you are walking down Queen Street West looking for a potential date.
1. Stay away from Bae Street
As intriguing as the wanna-be wolves on Bae Street are, you will most likely not find your bae on Bay street. These guys will be more focused on their stressful finance jobs than taking you to Byblos for dinner tonight.
2. Ditch all online dating websites and apps
Tinder, Bumble, Grindr, there are so many to choose from. Before setting yourself up for failure, do things the old-fashioned way and get dolled up and head to the entertainment district. This is the perfect place to meet people who might share the same interest as you, while also spending a night out on the town.
3. Hopeless romantics are everywhere
Stop complaining that there aren't any perfect guys out there. You might have missed the Toronto fvckboi holding the door for you while you were curving every guy on Tinder. Maybe the guy who sat beside you on the TTC to the Air Canada Centre wanted to ask you out, had you not been so focused on the newest Drake song. (then again, it's Drake so I don't blame you)
4. It's okay to feel lonely
Toronto is a big city, and everyone gets the feels at one point. Just remember that the city can make you feel as small as that tall pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks on Yonge Street, or as big as the CN tower. You’re not alone, and having the right state of mind will reinsure yourself that you will make it through this dry dating spell.
5. You can’t please them all
Fvckbois, hispters, trust fund babies, these are just naming a few of the types of guys you will meet in Toronto. You won’t be able to please them all, so stick to what you feel most comfortable with but don't be afraid to try new things. (refer to point 11)
6. Don’t settle for anything less than what you want
With so many beautiful people in Toronto settling down is tough. You will meet someone who loves Drake just as much as you, it just takes time. Then again, who doesn’t love the 6ix God?
7. Get your standards straight
If you're west of High Park, you've probably got high standards. I’m here to tell you that that’s okay! The sooner you know that the trust fund baby living at The Ritz won’t satisfy your love for art, the better it is for everyone.
8. Have an iPhone
Admit it, no one likes green bubbles on their screen. iMessage is a must in the dating world of Toronto. The blue text bubbles signify much more than just a received message.
9. Go Beyond The Bar Scene
Toronto is home to so many cool events, a simple walk to get coffee at Early Bird Espresso could be as adventurous and fun as a night out at Bloke and 4th.
10. Follow their gaze
With the 6ix being as hot as ever, temptation is always nearby. There are beautiful people walking down the streets of Toronto at every given moment, make sure to keep an eye out for the guy who is always looking for something better, he’ll probably be the same guy saying he has a connect at Lost & Found.
11. Try something new
Chances are you won't meet the man of your dreams hitting the nae nae at The Hoxton. He'll hit you with a quick #yeet and you'll be ghosted faster then Casper. Go to that Hot Yoga class at Moksha, you might learn some new positions while you're there.
12. Don't believe everything you hear
"I went home with The Weeknd on Monday", "Drake follows me on Tumblr" (does Drake even have Tumblr?) If you're dating someone who says say they live in a swanky condo downtown when in reality it's a one bedroom apartment in China Town chances are they are lying. Get to the know the person you are seeing before falling hard for a fvckboi or fvckgirl.
13. Beware of hipsters on Queen Street
Yes they have Instagram worthy man buns that make you want to scream YAASSS, while looking like they have their shit together but that is not always the case. They are mostly struggling musicians who still live with their mom. Don't think you're going to meet your baby daddy there.
14. Be yourself
In the words of 6ix God "Keep it 8 more than 92 with me, 100." Eyveryone on Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. uses filters to make themselves more appealing, but they are keeping it 50. Put away those filters, and camera phones and show you're true beauty with your dope style and killer personality.
15. Enjoy The Ride
Even Jose Bautista strikes out. Not all dates are going to be magical, actually most of them will suck before you have a good date. The guy who takes you to Soto Soto may win over your taste in wine, but the guy who takes you to Gangster Burger might win over your personality. All in all, embrace the scenery, the food and try your best to have fun.
