School can be really tough on anyone and everyone involved and it's like we always never say "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." Going to get a beer that is. Important to the survival of any University student is their ability to name the nearest place to get a beer in under a moments notice.

Ryerson students are lucky enough to go a University right in the heart of downtown Toronto, surrounded by countless dining and drinking options. Sometimes you're stressed out, sometimes you just have a long break between classes and sometimes you have only 10 minutes between classes so let us help you get there in little to no time at all for maximal beer consumption.

1. Lou Dawgs

76 Gerrard Street East

Open until 4am Lou Dawgs is perfect for late night study sessions. The beer selection is pretty standard featuring a couple house brand brews including their Lou's Brew (a dark lager). Wash the beer down with a pulled pork poutine, a Loutine.

2. The Ram in The Rye

63 Gould Street (entrance on Church street, corner of Gould)

If it's good enough for Olivia Chow, it's good enough for you. Enjoy a "flaming engineer" or a "Billy" as Ryerson students so lovingly call it. Beers on tap and great pub food to follow it up.

3. The Marquis of Granby

418 Church Street

The Marquis have $4 house beer and everything else, including the food, is reasonably priced. It’s a great spot for Ryerson students to stumble into post-evening classes in time for puck drop.

4. Shark Club Sports Bar & Grill

Suite 310 - 10 Dundas St E

Stumble in on a Wednesday and you’re in luck, $5 pound of wings and $5 pints of Canadian. On the other days of the week they generally have drink specials going on (food specials as well, if you're hungry). They also do this fun thing during Leafs games where you pick a numbered puck out of a bin and the number you choose corresponds with the jersey number of a player, if that player scores, free shots for the table!

5. Dukes Refresher and Bar

382 Yonge Street Unit 8

The atmosphere of this bar is rad because they have old vintage movies playing on some tv’s while the game plays on others, not to mention the background music and band t-shirts that the staff wear-awesome vibes. We almost forgot to mention that they have 40 beers on tap and offer 3oz samples, at only $1.45, so you can get it just right with plenty of time for your next class.

6. Imperial Pub

54 Dundas Street East

The pints are cheap and they are spitting distance away, who cares if the decor is a bit of a throwback? If you’ve been avoiding it all these years give er’ a go and we’re willing to bet you’ll be back for a second go around by the time your next midterm makes you cry.

7. Mick E Fynn's

45 Carlton Street

The beer is cold, the beer is cheap and the walk from campus is minimal so there are no complaints.

8. Elephant & Castle

378 Yonge Street

Super convenient and super reliable, Elephant & Castle, on the corner of Yonge and Gerrard is another great choice for a spontaneous, hard earned beer. They have a nice big selection of draft beers and the pub food always hits the spot.

9. Jack Astor's/Milestones

10 Dundas Street East

Alright so maybe not the most new and intricate place to have a beer downtown but nearby and easy nonetheless. Jacks and Milestones in the Dundas Square plaza are always a reliable choice for a between-classes-brew or cocktail.
