Canadian Police Keep Making Lip Syncing Videos And We Don’t Know Which One Is Worse
It's the weirdest trend we've seen all year.

Canadian police officers have not been strangers to backlash, thanks to a slew of controversies involving the LGBTQ+ community as well as people of colour and how they are treated. Lately, however, police forces across the country keep circulating in the news for a completely different reason altogether - and, in all honesty, it's kind of weirding us out.
It all started with this Hotline Bling recreation by the RCMP in Nova Scotia that was first uploaded back in April 2016, and since then has amassed over 600,000 views. It's exactly what you would expect, being a very awkward collection of clips of cops singing along to a Drake song.
If you thought that would be the last time you'd feel slightly cringed out while reading this article, you are very mistaken.
It took a few years but come late August of this year, lip sync videos featuring your local police were back yet again because apparently there is a demographic for this stuff. In this case, it featured the Hamilton police force performing "Whatever it Takes" by Imagine Dragons. As expected, it's also equally as awkward to watch as the last.
Most recently, the Saskatoon police force uploaded a lip sync video incorporated into a "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" skit recreation just a few days back. The video even got a response from one of the Backstreet Boys themselves for their cringe-worthy lip sync of "I Want It That Way."
Clearly, there is some sort of lip sync challenge going on in Canada's police community, considering the last two videos mentioned both have the hashtag #LipSyncChallenge in their descriptions. We don't know how or why this trend started but it's spreading like absolute wildfire across the country. It's definitely one of those situations that is more of a question of should we rather than can we.
Whether you are experiencing some intense second-hand embarrassment right now or are cheering for your local cop squad, it's safe to say that we can expect many more of these lip sync challenge videos to surface in the near future. So, get ready to see your neighbourhood officer awkwardly singing a boyband song for the camera!
