There’s A Course Dedicated To All Things Harry Potter At This Ontario University
Become the brightest witch or wizard of your age.
So you want to be a wizard, eh? Well, that’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. But what you could become is an expert in matters pertaining to the Wizarding World instead…
The University of Waterloo offers a rightly named course called Popular Potter, which basically examines all seven of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter novels. The course falls under the English department and aims to “introduce students to new ways of considering the place of literature in our culture.”
Professor Neil Randall, the creator of the course, hopes that students not only gain a better appreciation of the iconic story, but also a deeper understanding of its cultural impact on the world.
Students who have taken the course have given it praise for its interesting class discussions and assignments. Students may want to reread all seven books again to refresh their minds before taking the course; however, such is not necessary. Tests, essays and a really fun term project are all part of the course experience.
On a completely unrelated note, the University of Waterloo also once offered a Beyonce course the covered everything from gender analyses to feminist issues.
Looks like UW is the perfect school for both Potterheads and the Beyhive!
