Scarborough, Toronto's east end district, has developed quite a controversial reputation over the years. It's common for many people in Toronto to refer to the area as 'ratchet' or 'ghetto,' in allusion to its apparent propensity for violence and criminal activity.

But in reality, Scarborough is just as prone to crime as any other neighourhood in Toronto. Councillor Norm Kelly even defended the district, arguing that the media was constantly distorting how crime in Scarborough was being reported.

Still, it appears that the stereotype is one that is hard for people to shake off. Over the years and up until now, users on Twitter continue to label Scarborough as one (if not the most) ratchet place in Toronto. Do you agree with what they have to say? Judge for yourself:
