Three people were rushed to hospital following a sudden shooting that occured on a busy Saturday afternoon in Toronto's Entertainment District.
Multiple shots were fired in broad daylight around 8 p.m. near Queen Street West and Peter Street, where several pedestrians were present. The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a black SUV or white car.
Two of the victims were male, one of which died later in the night from his injuries. The other victim was a female who suffered from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Graphic images of a young man lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk have been posted on social media.
Some bystanders initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks. Toronto Police are currently investigating the situation.
"We heard multiple, multiple gunshots. They came in two sets. There was a set of three to four to five and then a pause, and then another set of literally three to four, four to five," a witness told CP24.
"The scene just turned chaotic. There were people running everywhere, there were vehicles just trying to get out of the way. Down on Peter Street we just saw a mass of tourists – normal Saturday traffic on Queen Street – basically running scared for their lives. It was intense, it was very chaotic."
The shooting marks Toronto's 49th homicide of 2018, with over 200 shootings having occured this year so far.
