Over 1,800 rescue animals are looking for new parents this weekend, as part of PetsSmart Charities Canada's National Adoption Weekend. From February 22 to 24, you can bring home a four-legged fur baby and help rescue a pet in need. PetSmart National Pet Adoption Weekend will take place from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday at nearly all of PetSmart's Canadian store locations.
Saved by more than 200 local shelters and rescue agencies throughout the country, thousands of puppies and dogs, kittens and cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals will be seeking warm and friendly owners to carry them to their "forever homes".
These cute and cuddly creatures will be waiting for you to pick them up at almost all of PetSmart's 140 stores across Canada.
Most adopters will be able to bring home their new pet that day, although some stores require a home visit to ensure the interested potential adopter fits the appropriate adoption criteria.
PetSmart will also be assisting adopters throughout the process with the guidance of its Adoption Ambassadors, who will be available directly in stores. The Adoption Ambassadors will also help answer questions to help adopters select the right type and age of pet to best suit their home and lifestyle.
Over 25,000 shelter pets find forever homes each year through PetSmart Charities of Canada since its in-store adoption program was introduced. The organization has also facilitated the adoption of over 280,000 adoptions since 1999, and provides grant funding to registered animal charities.
