When people think of reputable schools, generally the ones that come to mind are those of Ivy League calibre, like Harvard, Columbia or Yale. Canadian universities are often overlooked as renowned institutions, but they definitely shouldn't be given less merit.
A new ranking by Times Higher Education released a ranking of the top universities in the world with the best reputations, as determined by international academics. Experienced published scholars were sent questionnaires that asked them about their thoughts on the "standards of teaching and research in their disciplines and in institutions they are familiar with". Their responses, alongside other methodologies, were used to produce a list of the 50 most prestigious universities around the globe.
Eight of the top 10 universities were American, with the exception of the joint fourth place tie by the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge, which are both located in England. Canada managed to land three spots on the list - the University of Toronto (24), the University of British Columbia (40) and McGill University (42).
