A five-vehicle collision in Toronto 's east end has sent four people to a trauma centre this morning.  As a result, all eastbound lanes of Steeles Avenue near the scene of the collision are blocked by Toronto Emergency Services.

The crash took place near Sewells Road and Steeles Avenue at approximately 6:30 AM on Wednesday morning.  Toronto Police Sgt. Brett Moore informed CP24 that two of the vehicles crashed into each other head-on, it would appear.

Three of the individuals involved in the crash were men in their 50s,and were rushed to hospital in serious condition.  A woman in her 50s was also injured in the collision, and she was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital.

 

According to Toronto paramedics, the woman is being treated for her potentially life-threatening injuries, and Sgt. Moore has indicated that her condition is the most critical of those directly involved in the crash.

Sgt. Moore told CP24, "We have lots of resources on scene and more will be made available if required.  The area is closed… and it will be for some time until the evidence is collected."
