Back in the fall, a secret meeting between the Beer Store and LCBO was leaked by the Toronto Star. In the meeting, they discussed reinforcing the Beer Store's monopoly, and we learned that the two companies have been working together to make sure that the Beer Store was the only place Ontario residents could buy beer.
Since then, a massive controversy has arisen. Now, a craft beer company that wants to open a store selling their own beer could change everything for all of us. Barge Craft Beer has filed a lawsuit against the Beer Store, claiming that it contributes "an unreasonable restraint on trade" and should be taken down.
If this happens, more independent beer companies will be opening up. We'll have access to different kinds of beer we didn't before, and it'll all probably be a lot cheaper than if just one company was running the shots. Fingers crossed!
