Toronto's favourite 24-hour diner is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake marathon all day today in celebration of Shrove Tuesday. The famously "always-open" Lakeview Restaurant, located at 1132 Dundas Street West in Toronto, is known for its scrumptious 24/7 brunch options and late-night cheap eats. To celebrate Shrove Wednesday (also known as Pancake Tuesday), The Lakeview Restaurant will be hosting a 24-hour, all-you-can-eat buttermilk pancake marathon today.
From 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM on Tuesday, March 5th, The Lakeview is offering hungry customers an incredible deal of all the buttermilk pancakes that you can eat for just "12 and a half loonies".
The restaurant is also advertising special pricing for sides of strip bacon, maple sausage, peameal bacon, or pulled pork for just $3. Additionally, kids' "buttermilk dime pancakes" are also priced at $3 as part of the pancake festivities.
Shrove Tuesday falls on the day immediately before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Some countries - including the True North strong and free - celebrate by consuming pancakes, while others observe the holiday by throwing a Mardis Gras-style party to mark the last day of "fat eating" before the fasting period of Lent.
The Lakeview is one of Toronto's most recognizable dining establishments, primarily because the restaurant has served as a backdrop for countless blockbuster film productions (Toronto is called Hollywood North for a reason, after all).
You may have spotted the Lakeview's iconic retro decor in movies like the 2017 Academy Award-winner The Shape of Water, or in the 2007 film version of Hairspray, when an unrecognizable John Travolta dressed in drag sat at the diner's bar eating chocolate cream pie.
