Environment Canada just confirmed it - winter weather has arrived in the Toronto area and it didn't come here to play. Just after 5:00 AM on November 15th, a winter weather travel advisory was issued for the city and the Greater Toronto Area.
The advisory officially takes effect this afternoon, when the current weather projections show the start of snowfall. The GTA should expect 5 to 10 centimetres of snow, all of which is set to fall this afternoon and continue into tonight.
By tomorrow, "poor winter driving conditions are expected" due to the falling snow, the advisory reads. Untreated roads may become slippery and covered with snow, so drivers should exercise extra caution and prepare for significant delays.
"This is the largest snowfall event so far this season, and the first significant snowfall for many parts of the Golden Horseshoe," the advisory reads.
By Friday, the snow will become mixed with rain as temperatures climb up to about zero. " The snow is forecast to continue through tonight into early Friday morning," it says.
