Canadian Mobile Networks Just Got Ranked By Their Service And Plans And One Clearly Came In Last Place
Canada's mobile phone world has become a really tough area to navigate.
Ever since the chaos that ensued last year after practically every Canadian mobile phone company decided to offer the insane 10GB/$60 deal, it seems every Canadian has been on the hunt for the best phone plan. Thankfully, if you have been stumped with researching on your own, we've made the search a lot easier!
One of the biggest things that customers look for in good phone service is definitely speed. PC Mag actually decided to do some intense digging to find exactly which phone company in Canada offers the fastest speed- because even if they all say they're fast, there has to be one that's the fastest.
Best Speed Ratings
They took statistics ranging from maximum download speed to average download speed and time of LTE in order to figure out the top three. Surprisingly Telus ranked #1 with a 100% ranking, though Bell came at a close second with 96%. The reason Telus and Bell are so close is actually because the two carriers share the same spectrum as well as equipment. In contrast, popular carrier Rogers ranked third with a score of 89%.
Though, speed isn't the only thing that's important when it comes to picking the best service. While Telus and Bell are winning so far, we thought to mention some of the best deals right now, and which carriers are offering them. That way you can figure out the best service and plan combo that will fit your mobile needs!
Best Phone Plans
One of the best plans you can snag right now is Fido's $75 plan they are offering right now. While there aren't statistics comparing their speed to the top three competitors mentioned before, it's just too good of a plan to not mention. Not only do you get unlimited text and talk, but if you bring your own phone you get to knock $10 off of the plan- meaning it'll only cost you $65 a month!
As of right now Rogers, Bell and Telus all offer variations of a 5 or 6GB/month plan. Where both Rogers and Bell offer 5GB for $100 a month while Telus offers 6GB for $115 a month. Though, if you're down to split your data with your family, Bell hosts one of the best family plans in Canada right now that could be a good option as well:
The plan allows for 4 lines where you share 8GB, meaning if you split it equally, each person gets 2GB each. The plan will run you $255 a month after paying a $120 upfront cost but after that, it'll cost around $63 for each person each month. Meaning it does come in a few dollars lower than the Fido plan but Fido offers 3x the data.
While it can be a little confusing trying to figure out the perfect plan, it seems the best option for people who use a lot of data every month would be to go with Fido. While they weren't ranked for speed, to snag 6GB of data for under $100 a month right now is unheard of. Though if speed really is king for you, you'd be better off grabbing the plan from Bell considering the mere 1GB difference saves you $15 a month in contrast to Telus' offer.
If the rankings show anything, it's that while Bell and Telus have a decent leg to stand on with regard to their prices due to their incredible speed performance, Rogers doesn't. Not only does Rogers have one of the more expensive plans when it comes to the data deal, but they also rank behind Bell and Telus, yet still charge the same.
So if you are in the market for a new plan, there are definitely a lot of variables to consider but the companies that stick out the most for us are definitely Bell and Fido. It's just a question on whether you favour data or speed more that you've got to answer to choose between the two. Though, in a perfect world maybe the 10GB for $60 a month plan will make a return to make your life easier!
