Chick-Fil-A, the #1 chicken restaurant in the United States, has just confirmed Toronto as the location for its first restaurant as part of the brand's upcoming international expansion.

The popular fast food chain first came to Canada in 2014, when it opened a restaurant in Calgary's airport. Tim Tassopoulos, the president and chief operating officer of Chick-Fil-A, now believes the restaurants have a place in the Ontario capital.

"Toronto is a great city – with diverse and caring people and a vibrant restaurant culture with a deep talent pool," he said. "These strengths align perfectly with Chick-fil-A's focus on community giving, delivering a premium product, and working with passionate people that can grow with our company – making Toronto the perfect choice for international expansion."

A unique aspect of Chick-Fil-A's company model is the fact that their Operators are full-time owners who usually own one restaurant. They are expected to shape their restaurants from the front lines and make their own individual choices on how they would like to serve their communities.

That said, Chick-Fil-A is currently hiring Operators for its upcoming locations in the Greater Toronto Area, offering a lower economic entry for ownership (15,000 CAD compared to $100,000 or $300,000 like most other franchises). The brand plans to open up to 15 stores in the next five years, creating as many as 75 jobs per store.

The Toronto location is expected to open sometime in 2019.
