The CN Tower is such a fixture in our understanding of what Toronto is. It's easily our most famous landmark, and you can see it from almost anywhere in the city. It's always there, watching over us like a tall, pointy guardian. So it's really weird to think that it's only been around for less than 40 years.
It's also weird to think what people used to associate with Toronto before it. This picture is of the Toronto skyline from the angle we're most familiar with, but taken in 1974, when the CN Tower was still under construction. Look at this view. Isn't it so bland? It just goes to show how much we take our famous lightning rod for granted, because without it, we'd just look like another random city.
