Impaired Ontario Driver Drags Female Police Officer Several Feet While Fleeing Scene
Durham Regional Police investigators are looking for a 21-year-old Toronto male following disturbing traffic stop incident.
A routine traffic stop went off the rails in Oshawa last night after a police officer was taken for a dangerous ride. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating two suspects who reportedly dragged a female Durham Regional Police officer several feet while attempting to flee in their vehicle on Wednesday evening.
The intense situation unfolded around 11:30 PM last night at a traffic stop set up by the Central East Division near Capreol Court in Oshawa after receiving reports of a suspected impaired driver. After the suspect arrived at the stop, police began to confront him for supposedly driving under the influence. The driver then attempted to flee the scene.
A female Durham Police officer was still partially inside the vehicle when it began to pull away. The officer inside the car was dragged "several feet" before she was finally able to free herself, Durham Regional Police says. The suspects then turned their vehicle around and headed in the direction of the other officers; both officers discharged their firearms at this time. Thankfully, the officer walked away from the incident with only minor injuries.
A similar incident occurred in the Vaughn area three weeks ago when a 50-year old man narrowly missed two police officers, before fleeing the scene. Officers later found out that the vehicle the suspect was driving had been stolen during a prior theft.
Oshawa Investigators have put out a search warrant for a 21-year-old male who police believe is living in the city of Toronto.
