Great news in the city of Toronto this morning! John Tory has made it official, by proclaiming February 6th, Toronto's very own Bob Marley Day. Today marks what would have been the legend's 70th birthday and what better gift could the city of Toronto give his legacy than a whole day to celebrate?
The mayor sent out the following tweet this morning to let the city know his intentions had been carried through.
Happy to proclaim #BobMarleyDay in the City of #Toronto - an influential musician, advocate for human rights and ambassador of peace #TOpoli

Meanwhile, The city of Toronto posted the official proclamation on their website. Today marks the 24th year that Toronto holds a celebration in the singers honour at City Hall featuring an awards ceremony, meant to honour those who have promoted humanitarianism in various ethnic and social groups in Toronto
Past winners include Mayor John Tory himself as well as Drake. On Saturday, February 7th, to follow up the awards, there will be a tribute concert held at The Mod Club Theatre with proceeds benefitting the Wild Cane Community Centre in St. Ann, Jamaica where Marley was born. The money raised will support programs at the centre, such as education, sports, organic farming and youth empowerment.
So we have to ask, how will you celebrate Bob Marley day in Toronto today?
