Today, is the best Tuesday of the whole year! Shrove Tuesday, also known as pancake day.
Shrove Tuesday falls on the Tuesday of each year that precedes Ash Wednesday, the first day of lent. Somewhere, along the line Canada, along with the UK, Ireland and Australia started to refer to it as Pancake day because of the tradition to eat the fluffy drops of heaven on Shrove Tuesday.
The whole pancake thing started because pancakes were said to symbolize the sun, bringing power, light and warmth to fight against the winter cold. We're all for eating pancakes and summoning some warmth, so we are in.
Some things that you may not know about this delicious day is that you're supposed to take breaths between stuffing your face to reflect and confess (the word 'shrove' comes from 'shrive' meaning to confess) and you're actually meant to start fasting afterwards, the reason behind the carbo loading, but we'll pretend like we didn't know that.
Finally, if you revisit Nataly Kogan's TEDx Talk from 2013 below you can learn just how pancakes can make you happier and how they change the world! It's true! It's true!
