Raptors fans were not left disappointed last night after Jeremy Lin made his official debut with the team. The energy in the arena was notably high as the point guard walked onto the court in his new jersey for the first time, looking so comfortable in his new surroundings you would've thought he was traded years ago. “Linsanity” capped off his first game with the Raptors with a respectable eight points, five rebounds, five assists all of which he accomplished in under half an hour.
Although the Raptor newcomer’s performance may have been overshadowed by the stunning 44 points Pascal Siakam put out that night, it would nevertheless be hard to say Lin didn’t have anything to do with Toronto’s 129-120 win.
After the game ended, Lin, who is always a gentleman, tweeted out his thanks to Raptors fans with a touch of self-deprecating humour. "Hectic day but ended with a win (even though I only knew three plays lol)!! Thank you Toronto for the standing O and the love!" the star point guard tweeted.
Lin appeared to have learned a valuable lesson from the debut of another Raptor's newcomer, former Memphis powerhouse Marc Gasol. Gasol may have made a strong debut on the court, but he completely messed up the team's bizarre warm-up routine and was left standing dumbfounded by the behaviour of his new teammates.
However, it looked as though Lin had seen the footage of Gasol and made sure that he didn't fall into the same trap, falling into the silly routine like a natural.
It was a heartwarming game for the team's newbie, and it was even more touching to see that Lin's mother had turned up at the game to see her son play. So, not only did he play great, but he also had us reaching for our tissue boxes, well done Lin.
