The Taste of The Danforth festival is taking on a whole new meaning this year. After a shooter opened fire in the Greektown community people began expressing their support for the people and Torontonians have vowed to make this year's festival bigger and better than ever in honour of the shooting victims.
The Taste of The Danforth draws millions of people every year with its amazing food and culture, but this year will have one very special guest.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in Toronto tonight to officially open the Taste of The Danforth. The festival runs from today August 10 to August 12 with opening ceremonies beginning at 8 pm tonight.
The ceremonies are set to remember the victims of the shooting and acknowledge the strength of the community as Toronto heads into the festival. The ceremony will begin with a moment of silence for the two people killed in the shooting.
The official ceremony will also acknowledge and thank all the first responders who were on the scene that night to help the victims and take down the shooter.
Justin Trudeau is expected to make remarks to the community in response to the tragic shooting at the opening ceremonies.
This will be the second time the Prime Minister has been to the Danforth since the shooting on July 22. He was also in attendance at a vigil the Wednesday following the tragedy.
