Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in Toronto today for a very important reason.
He’s not here to make any announcements or to discuss any kind of policy issue, he’s here for a very personal visit.
Trudeau is expected to be one of those attending the funeral of Reese Fallon, the 18-year-old woman killed in the Danforth shooting.
Trudeau will not be the only high profile politician at the ceremony, Mayor John Tory will also be in attendance as well.
Fallon was a supporter of Trudeau and the Liberal party, she was a member of the Beaches-East York (Toronto) chapter of the Young Liberals, which is a youth organization for Liberal supporters.
Fallon and 10-year-old Julianna Kozis were killed after a man named Faisal Hussain opened fire in the heart of the city’s Greek town around 10 at night before eventually turning the gun on himself.
In an obituary posted online Fallon’s family says, “we will never forget you for one moment, and we will always carry you in our hearts.”
After attending the funeral Trudeau will then be going to a parkette on the Danforth, which has become a place for people to place flowers and other things honouring the victims of the tragedy.
Obviously, we all wish the prime minister was visiting the city under less grievous circumstances.
