Ride-sharing service Lyft has officially launched in Toronto today and to celebrate its entry into the international market, the tech company is offering some pretty sweet incentives to its new Toronto riders.
New users and riders in the GTA are being offered discounts on their first five rides, which is way better than the one discounted ride offered to new Uber users. Each of the five rides are discounted by $5, with a total of $25 in savings for new Lyfters.
To get this sweet discount, all you need to do is enter the promo code LYFTGTA17, which will take you anywhere in the GTA.
Branded as an inclusive and philanthropic, the ride-hailing company is already turning a lot of heads (in a good way). The first official Lyft ride in Toronto went from the Distillery District to SickKids Hospital. The rider? Toronto Blue Jays' pitcher Marcus Stroman, who delivered Christmas presents to children at the hospital. Lyft's Toronto General Manager says act of kindness toward others is the main pillar of how this company will rival against its competition.
As for how Lyft fares against its main competitor when it comes to Uber, no confirmed pricing has been released yet. And as Uber has been in Toronto for years and has plenty of riders and drivers, it definitely has the upper hand at the moment and offers great alternatives to taxi prices. But in a quick evaluation of the two ride-sharing companies taken at the same time, Uber is still a few dollars cheaper.
Only time will tell which of the two ride-sharing companies will be the ride of choice in Toronto, but Lyft has made a pretty impressive start.
