Mayor John Tory Is Handing Out Free TTC Tokens In Toronto Right Now And Here's Why

Happy Greater Toronto Day!

You might want to stop what you're doing and go down to University Avenue and Queen St. West, where Toronto Mayor John Tory was recently spotted handing out cookies and TTC tokens.

Mayor Tory is spending the afternoon helping TTC staff hand out free goodies of Osgoode subway station. He tweeted a few photos with the caption, "Small acts of kindness can really make a difference in a person's day."

Mayor Tory announced earlier today that May 16th will officially be recognized as Greater Toronto Day, an annual opportunity to give back and "take part in activities that make Toronto a great place in which to live, work and play."

The city's even giving you some incentive to do something kind today. City Councillor Norm Kelly posted a photo on Twitter saying, "Share your good deed on social media with the hashtag #GreaterTorontoDay, and you could be 1 of 3 people to receive $1,000 towards a local charity of your choice."

The post also says that your good deed might get featured on local news coverage of Greater Toronto Day. Tons of people across the GTA are already sharing their acts of kindness, from "giving puppies to seniors" to ensuring that Toronto beaches are litter-free.

This morning, Mississauga's MiWay public transit teamed up with Tim Hortons to give our free coffee and snacks to passerby. Team members from Q107 radio were giving our free ice cream in High Park all morning long.

But, don't worry if you missed out! There will be tons of other Greater Toronto Day activities and kind gestures to spot around the city today!
