Ontario's first legal Cannabis stores are now hiring. Those selected will make history as the first ever in-store employees to be hired at a legal cannabis store in the province. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario announced last Thursday that they have officially issued the first three cannabis retail licenses in the province. The new cannabis storefronts include The Hunny Pot Cannabis Co. which is located in Toronto, The Niagara Herbalist in St. Catharine’s and Central Cannabis in the city of London.
Right now, both Central Cannabis and The Niagara Herbalist are hiring employees via Indeed.ca. Job advertisements for the exciting new stores began to pop up this week. Employers listed a number of requirements for candidates to consider before applying. Those wishing to work in the stores must display a high level of knowledge about the drug.
While Central Cannabis in London has kept the whole process professional by sticking to a more traditional job title “Sales Advisor”, other companies have taken their creative liberties to a much more interesting level. The Niagara Herbalist, for example, named the position they are hiring for “Budtender,” which is sure to look amazing on anyone’s future resume.
Here is a list of some of the requirements the companies are asking for:
- Strong understanding of the market and ability to adhere to the custom.
- Have a deep understanding of the product.
- All candidates must 19 years of age or older due to the rules set in place by the AGCO.
- Be an involved member of the community and a proud Representative of the brand.
- Able to lift boxes 5-30 lbs.
- Preventing the sales of cannabis to anyone under the legal age of 19.
It was announced back in January that the Ontario government would release a list of the first 25 companies who have applied for the license, which were selected in a lottery. Before the announcement of the list, over 17,000 companies expressed interest in receiving the license, according to CP24.
