On Sunday, December 30th, downtown Toronto's favourite new skating trail is giving you the chance to cross a crazy activity off your bucket list - skating through the city in your underwear. The Bentway will be hosting their very own Polar Bear Skate - same concept as the Polar Bear Dip, but on ice.
If you're unfamiliar with the Polar Bear Dip, it's an annual activity that takes place every January 1st in Toronto. Participants collect donations for the Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Center, either as a team or individually. Then on New Year's day, they strip down to their bathing suits and run into Lake Ontario.
According to the event description, the Polar Bear Skate is "a twist on the traditional polar bear dip, skaters will strip to their intimates and Skate the 8 in their knickers!" Those who pre-register will receive a free hot chocolate and a chance to win a special Bentway prize pack.
But, you don't have to register in advance to participate. Registration opens at 1:30 on December 30th and it's totally free to participate. All you need is a pair of skates, but Bentway also has skate rentals onsite.
The Bentway Skating Trail is located right under the Gardiner Expressway near the Fort York Visitors Centre at 250 Fort York Boulevard. Whether you're doing it for charity or just to say you've gone skating in your underwear, you don't want to miss the Polar Bear Skate this year.
