Yesterday, we told you about Laurier University's plan to open a new campus in Milton. Today, Ryerson University announced their new campus in Brampton, set to open its doors in 2022. The Brampton campus will be a joint partnership between RU and Sheridan College.

Like Laurier Milton, Ryerson's northern campus will be an innovation hub for students in science, tech, engineering, arts and math. The campus is expected to be up and running in four years.

Below is a rendering of what the future campus is expected to look like. The City of Brampton will be investing an impressive $150 million into the new site.

Right now, there are tons of Ryerson University students that commute from across the GTA to get to their classes at the Yonge and Dundas campus, instead of paying to live in residence or in an apartment in the downtown core. Opening a campus outside of the city could eliminate the stress and inconvenience that comes with commuting to class every day, giving future students a major advantage.

Ryerson University has already confirmed the site of their new campus, located in downtown Brampton. It's less than a kilometre away from the Brampton GO station, at the corner of Church St. West and Mill St. North.

The school will also offer co-operative and experiential learning opportunities for students to prepare them for work after graduation. Students will even have access to a national centre for cybersecurity.

Ryerson University president Mohamed Lachemi says, “We are looking forward to working with Sheridan to provide students in the region with innovative academic programs that offer the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to succeed and thrive in the modern economy.”
