Peel Regional Police reported early this morning that an alleged break-in took place at Square One Shopping Centre in the early morning hours on Thursday. At about 3:41 AM, Peel Police responded to a break-and-enter at the mall near Highway 403 and Hurontario Street. Two suspects then had an "interaction" with police, CBC reports.
The suspects attempted to flee the scene in a Porsche, but officers pursued them in a brief chase. The chase resulted in a collision - the Porsche reportedly crashed into a flower bed and some bushes near the Holt Renfrew store. Both the police cruiser and the Porsche are both damaged.
The PRP canine unit was also called to the scene, CBC reports. Both suspects were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries at around 5:00 AM. A police officer has also been transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Peel Police revealed this morning that the scene is being held until the extent of the injuries is confirmed. It is unknown whether or not the police investigation will prevent access to the mall, which opens at 9:00 AM.
Other media have made reference to the Special Investigations Unit in relation to the incident. The SIU is called when a person is seriously hurt during an interaction with police officers. Peel Police have not confirmed whether the SIU has been called to the scene as well.
