Looks like Kim Kardashian really did break the internet, just a little later than she had planned to. Twitter exploded late last night in reaction to Kim K’s snapchat story. If you’re not totally up to date on what happened, here’s a run down:
Rewind to February, when Taylor Swift won the Grammy for album of the year and gave a powerful speech focusing on the notion that her success is a symbolic triumph for all of the young women who have had their success and fame “undercut” or taken credit for. This was widely agreed upon to be a digging response to Kanye West’s hit track ‘Famous’ which featured the lyrics:
"I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex // Why? I made that bitch famous”
And up until now, most of us were team Taylor, because we love hard-working, successful women and we’ve reached an age where it is absolutely unacceptable for men to undermine or take credit for their work.
But that whole story changes if Taylor Swift consented to those lyrics, doesn't it? And last night, Kim helped proved that that’s exactly what happened. Kim's snapchat story features a video recording of Kanye West on the phone with Taylor Swift asking for - AND RECEIVING - permission to mention her in his hit song ‘Famous’.
If you watch Kim’s snapchat story, you’ll see for yourself that Kanye literally read those exact lyrics, SLOWLY, to forbid any misinterpretation. And there wasn't any, T-Swift seemed to understand. She responded not merely granting, but actually gushing her permission as well as gratitude and respect for Kanye. That's not it- she goes on for several minutes about how ‘cool’ it was of him to ask for her blessing, and how she thinks it still would've been okay to do without her blessing. She also describes the mention as a compliment.
And thanks to Kim exposing Taylor’s unquestionable consent, we now have the truth. Taylor isn’t a victim, she just really likes playing victim. Oh Kimmy K, it has always been too easy for you to amaze the world, all you ever had to do was moon a photographer with a smouldering gaze. And now, you have done something truly (?) amazing (?) and lovers of petty celeb drama are living for it!
Anyway - now everyone is all WTF Taylor? Pretty sociopathic to set someone up, cast them as a bully, framing yourself as a victim of the evil you in fact orchestrated.
Anyway, I won’t bother you with too many of my own opinions on the matter. Instead, I’d rather show you what other people are saying on the world’s breeding ground for intelligence and hilarity: Twitter. Without further ado, here are the 36 best tweets from the #KimExposesTaylorParty:
Okay... So this one isn't from last night. But it was retweeted MANY times last night because it's just too relevant and real right now. Kim showed us the manipulative, Regina-esque side of Taylor that Katy (and so many others) have been talking about.
