Come 2018, Ontarions might see the minimum wage raised all the way to $15 an hour. Labour groups are campaigning to persuade Kathleen Wynne's Liberal government that a higher minimum wage is what Ontario workers need.
The current minimum wage in Ontario is $11.40 an hour. In Alberta, that number is $12.20 an hour, and the Alberta provincial government has promised to raise it to $15 an hour by 2018.
Campaigners are hoping that Kathleen Wynne's Ontario government will follow Alberta's lead. Ontario NDP party leader Andrea Horwath has publicly declared her support for a $15 minimum wage. "If the Liberal government won't do it, then Ontarians will have an opportunity in two years to elect [a government] that will," she said.
As of now, we'll have to wait a little longer to see how the government will respond.
