Only three days after Toronto experienced a mass shooting on the Danforth, a drive-by shooting has left a man dead in the West End of the city. We've just found out that the shooting wasn't an accident and that the man was targeted.
On Wednesday, a 24-year-old man was shot while at a red light on Islington Avenue and Duncanwoods Road, by Finch Avenue. Kevin Boakye was shot through the passenger side of his car before crashing his vehicle nearby on Milady Road.

The Toronto Police have announced that Boakye was known to police prior to his death and have now concluded that he was a target in the drive-by shooting. It has also been confirmed that Boakye is the father of two children.
Boakye was driving a Dodge Journey SUV while waiting to turn southbound onto Islington. That's when the shooter pulled up in what is described as a grey or silver Hyundai Elantra to Boakye's passenger side and fired numerous shots into his vehicle. It was only around 11:00 AM in the morning when this happened.

Boakye still managed to drive southbound down Islington but eventually lost control of his SUV. He crashed into a property on the corner of Milady Rd, which police estimated a distance of a quarter mile.
Police Superintendent Ron Tavener did say that another fatal shooting in Toronto is upsetting and that they're currently looking for the shooters grey/silver Hyundai Elantra.

Police are asking that anyone with any additional information please contact them as they investigate the incident.
After the city's tragic week, we can only hope that the gun violence ends soon. As of Monday, July 23, Toronto had seen 39 people fall victim to gun violence in July alone.
