Being single is hard enough as it is. A new survey by Match.com studied the average cost of dating and the results are not pretty.
According to the study, the average unmarried American spent $1,596 on dating in 2016. That cost includes things like restaurant and bar tabs, dating site membership fees, and even personal grooming costs like new outfits and manicures.
In general, men spent more: $1,855 on average, compared to $1,423 for women. Interestingly, 78% of women said they insisted on splitting the check because they didn't want to feel obligated to get physical.
Looks like being single in 2017 is definitely not cheap.
