Toronto Police are now reaching out to the public for help in locating suspects involved a shooting that took place near Firvalley Court and Cataraqui Crescent at 3:30 AM on March 2nd. According to Toronto Police Services, a gunman appeared out of the sunroof of a silver Volkswagen, which was moving at the time, fired several shots at another vehicle and fled the scene.
It is unknown at this time what motivated the gunman to open fire. No injuries were sustained by the passengers or driver of the other vehicle. The intersection of Firvalley Court and Cataraqui Crescent is nestled in a quiet residential area in Scarborough, about a 25-minute drive from downtown Toronto.
A brief video of the incident was released by police on Friday. In the video, which appears to have been captured off of a neighbouring home's security system, the suspect's Volkswagen is seen passing by a black vehicle which appears to be backing up.
The silver Volkswagen then hits the brakes allowing the gunman to pop out of the vehicles’ sunroof and begin opening fire on the black car. The suspect then flees the scene while the gunman continues to fire shots at the other vehicle.
It is impossible to tell in the soundless video how many shots are fired but given the fact that the gunman opens fire for at least 10-seconds on the vehicle before exiting the frame, we can assume it was one more than twice.
Police have yet to release any further information on the occupants of the black vehicle, so it is unknown at this moment if the crime was random or premeditated. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police at (416) 808-4100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (416) 222-TIPS (8477).
