When it comes to transit in Toronto the TTC offers over 70 subway stops and hundreds of bus routes. Not only that, Ontario's capital also has a fleet of streetcars that help get commuters to get from point A to point B.
Well, a new study has recently shown that Toronto is actually the sixth worst commuter city in on the entire planet. It is also the highest ranked North American city on the list, meaning that it placed last in all North American cities.
The news is slightly ironic considering last year the TTC was awarded the best transit system in North America and it even stayed in the top three spot for 2018.
One of the main issues facing the TTC is the lack of funding given to public transit. A rep for the TTC union says that "Toronto is the catalyst of Ontario and right now its transit system is 30-40 years behind."
Not only is the TTC struggling for funding but they are currently looking for a new CEO for the commission. Former CEO, Andy Byford, is now currently in New York working with their transit commission.
The data looked at 74 cities across the globe. They analyzed numerous factors such as commute time and time spent in traffic, something that the constant Toronto construction does not help with.
Any city can have commuting issues but it seems like Toronto is starting to slip. Here's hoping the next CEO can bring some serious changes to overhaul the system.
