Toronto may have reached their breaking point when it comes to Doug Ford. The city is more angry with Ontario's Premier than ever before and they have a pretty good reason.
First, the government passed legislation to cut Toronto City Council in half, and now they have said that they want to take over the city's transit system. The two actions have people accusing Doug Ford of trying to act like he's the mayor of Toronto. FYI: He's not.
In a Reddit thread about the changes to the city council, which have been called undemocratic, there are over 300 comments, most of which expressing anger at the Premier.
One concern that's emerging on the Reddit thread is that Ford is too busy worrying about Toronto to effectively run the province, or that he is doing all this with the city to distract from other stuff the government is doing.
On Twitter, people are expressing similar concerns but they are being blunter in saying that Doug Ford is literally trying to use his position as premier to act like the Mayor of Toronto.
Doug Ford has a history with Toronto city politics, having been a councillor when his brother Rob was the mayor in 2010 and then losing his own 2014 campaign for mayor to John Tory.
Doug Ford clearly thinks being elected Premier also makes him the Mayor of Toronto.— Adam Lockett (@AdamLockett34) 16 August 2018
It’s clear that the @OntarioPCParty is doing their best to make Toronto Doug’s fiefdom to appease is fragile ego.
Doug Ford is using his role as Premier to live out his fantasy of being Mayor of Toronto.— jimmy_james_t.o. (@jamescockfield) 16 August 2018
The article which launched the angry Reddit thread was from Press Progress who called Doug Ford's cuts to city council vindictive, gerrymandering and said he was rigging the upcoming Toronto election.
